Cases of Adji Sarr, Mame Mbaye Niang, Blockade of his Residence…: The Sonko Defense Brief

The leader of the Pastef party has largely returned, through a memorandum on his legal files, to the violent demonstrations of 2021 and 2023 and Macky’s management of the country. A press conference of the Political Bureau of the Pastef party yesterday was an opportunity to present the memorandum whose title is « Light on the violence of the State of Senegal against the populations after the judicial decision of June 1, 2023 », drawn up by Ousmane Sonko to « deny the accusations in the white paper produced by the government to hold them responsible for the bloody events » that took place from June 1, just after the verdict handed down by the Criminal Chamber sentencing Sonko to 2 years in prison for corruption of youth in the trial opposing him to the ex-masseuse Adji Sarr.

Quoting Ousmane Sonko, the members of the politburo took it upon themselves to read this memorandum, to “say that those who suffer violence are those who belong to the Pastef party”. « Faced with the tragic events that followed the judicial harassment and the decision to which I was subjected, having pitted me against a Senegalese citizen who unfairly accused me of rape and death threats by firearm, I would like to bring my part of the truth to the attention of international opinion.

“Acts of violence have always been inflicted on the victim. Since 2021, since the story of the removal of Ousmane Sonko, making history of the victims, you will not see anyone other than an activist from the Pastef party or from the opposition. The seats that are attacked is an act of violence, it is the headquarters of the Pastef party. It was the Pastef party that was the victim, Mariama Sagna who was killed, she is an activist of the Pastef party or of the opposition. Make the situation of all those who are in prison for political opinion, those who died, those who are victims of torture are 99.99% of Pastef party activists. More than 80% of the victims were shot dead. There are 157 injured, 15 of whom were shot. I accuse the government of being the author of a disproportionate response,” supported the MP.
